Oregon Wine Country
Published in Paperback by Graphic Arts Center Publishing Co. (April, 1998)
Authors: Robert M. Reynolds and Judy Peterson-Nedry
Average review score:

Wonderful blend of photos and wine country history
If you want an easy to read overview of Oregon wineries, this book is it. It's organized by both viticultural areas and by wine types. The book strikes a nice balance between enough information to be useful but not so much you that won't finish it. The photos are striking and show the breadth of the Oregon wine industry. A nice touch are the side bars introducing the winemakers and pioneers of Oregon wine. If you're into Oregon wine, I highly recommend it.

Oregon's Golden Years: Bonanza of the West
Published in Paperback by Caxton Press (June, 2003)
Author: Miles F., Potter
Average review score:

Excellent Historical Overview of Oregon's Gold Rush Years.
Miles Potter takes the reader on a historically accurate and very intriguing journey through Oregon's Gold Rush Years. Mr. Potter discusses not only the gold mining history, but how these events influenced the development of Oregon, and helped shape it into the state that it is today. Mr. Potter's only omission is that he gives just a passing mention to the minor Central Cascade Mountain Range gold strikes. However, the book more than makes up for that by it's excellent coverage of the major gold fields. Excellent Reading for anyone interested in History or Mining.

Oregon: Images of the Landscape
Published in Paperback by Westcliffe Pub (September, 1990)
Author: Steve Terrill
Average review score:

By Far His Best Work
This book is, by far, Steve Terrill's greatest achievement. Over a decade of photographing the most beautiful places in the state of Oregon culminated in this outstanding work. While Terrill has continued to publish many books, this one is something he will likely never match, simply because this book contained the creme de la creme of his work. With all due respect to the great Ray Atkeson, this is arguably the greatest scenic book ever published on the state. Published in the hey-day of Westcliff's state based themed books, it was a standout then. It's a real shame it's no longer in print.

Out and About Portland With Kids: The Ultimate Family Guide for Fun and Learning
Published in Paperback by Sasquatch Books (July, 1997)
Author: Elizabeth Hartzell Desimone
Average review score:

Excellent guide!
As a newcomer to Portland, this book has been a godsend. It does a wonderful job of covering hundreds of different things to do in Portland and surrounding areas (the coast, the mountains) with kids. It covers restaurants that are kid-friendly, scenic drives, things to do when it's raining (a definite plus here), places to host birthday parties, etc.

This book tells you which age groups are likely to enjoy different activities (for example, a day hike may be better for older kids than for a tired toddler) and also the best times of year for many activities.

I would even suggest this book to people who don't have children. It is the best all-around guide to the area, its sights, sounds, restaurants and history, that I've found so far.

Outstanding Oregon Recipes features recipes which use foods from the fields, waters, orchards, and fertile valleys of Oregon. One of the most topographically diverse states, its bounty of produce is equally diverse.

Snow-capped mountains, deserts, fertile valleys, waterfalls, canyons, volcanoes, and rivers make up Oregon's spectacular beauty. More than just a feast for the eyes, the wines are world class, seafood is abundant, Oregon fruits are famous, and the dairy products are delectable. Some of the specialties featured in Outstanding Oregon Recipes are: hazelnuts, blueberries, apples, raspberries, pears, cranberries, peaches, cheeses, poultry, beef, lamb, fish, seafood, mushrooms, and more-consider "Sage Grilled Halibut with Nectarine Sauce," "Mushroom Vegetable Egg Delight," "Cheddar Apple Dandy." The full-color cover features a picture of Mount Hood by Ray Atkeson. Line art by Diane Heusinkveld is throughout the book. Famous sites and attractions of Oregon are highlighted in a 12-page section.

Daniela Sipkova Mahoney, the compiler, was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She now lives in Portland with her husband, Patrick Mahoney, and two children. Her hobby of Ukrainian egg decorating and her interest in folk crafts has developed into a business presenting workshops around the state and throughout the U.S. She has worked as a tour guide and especially promotes the scenic, artistic, and culinary beauty of Oregon.

Outstanding Oregon Recipes is one of a series of regional and state titles in the "Stocking Stuffer" format published by Penfield Press.

Overland to Oregon
Published in Paperback by Ye Galleon Press ()
Author: Edward H Lenox
Average review score:

Lenox History
I read this book with considerable interest, not only in the Oregon Trail interest, but because this book was written by a young man who was 16 years old at the time of their blazing the Oregon Trail and who happened to be the son of David T. Lenox, my great great grandfather. I remember my grandmother telling stories of this historical time and their truth was verified after reading the book. It's amazing the use of the English language (or should I say lack of it) was especially of interest to me. Thank you.
